This is a place for free, frank and open discussion of all matters related to God, faith and Islam, so that we all can learn from each other and perhaps also dispel any misconceptions we may have about various aspects of these matters.

Private and Confidential

If you wish to have a private conversation with any group members, please ensure that the other person understands that you wish the conversation to remain private and confidential. All of your private conversations with group admins will always be kept private and confidential even if you do not request them to do so.

For public and open conversation in the group, there are only
4 Rules we ask you to follow:

BE CIVIL
  1. Please always abide by the etiquettes of debates and discussions. Do keep the chat relevant to everyone and please always be courteous, civil and respectful towards others, even when they may not have such attitudes towards you.

Don’t get into adversarial conversations or arguments. It may be that you know more than someone or that they are forcefully stating something that you consider to be incorrect – but the objective here is to learn and to educate each other through calm and polite discussions and not by lecturing, criticising, mocking or heckling.

Should you feel the need to say something that may come across as harsh – please message a group admin first or send a private message to the person you wish to direct your comments to. Please avoid embarrassing anyone in a public group

    BE CONSIDERATE

  2. Please do not post or forward any videos, news stories, jokes, memes, unrelated images or announcements, adverts, petitions, etc or anything related to politics. There are other groups for this.

All we want to do here is to talk about issues related to faith and Islam – by ourselves. We shouldn't try to prove a point by posting a long video or a long document that has a lot of text. Please also try to avoid the use of Arabic words and phrases except where it is absolutely necessary

    BE SPECIFIC

  3. To support your position in a discussion → please only post relevant ayahs from the Qur’an from reputable translations (with relevant tafseer if you want to) and Hadiths, with the source. If you don’t know the source, perhaps you can ask others to find the source for you.

Please do not just use the fatawa or the speech of an Alim to prove your point. Use your own words and thoughts based on the Qur’an and Sunnah. You can, however, quote someone else to emphasise a point you have already made (or are making) yourself

    BE TOLERANT

  4. Alims and students of knowledge → please note that this group is not for determining religious rulings.

It’s for a free and open discussion about topics that group members may not be able to ordinarily have with other like-minded people. Therefore, the topics could get rather difficult in terms of general religious sensibilities.

We therefore respectfully request for you to be tolerant of discussions that you may think is inappropriate or incorrect from the religious perspective. The aspiration here is that group members will - through civil discussion and debate - eventually learn from each other as to what is correct and what isn't.

However, should you feel the need to intervene – please message a group admin first or send a private message to the person you wish to direct your comments to. Please avoid embarrassing anyone in a public group

It’s OK to be just in the group and not contribute and you can also use the mute function if you get too distracted by group activity (swipe right on the chat in your ‘Chats’ list, click on ‘More’ and press ‘Mute’).

Also, abruptly leaving a group is the equivalent of storming off or hanging up on someone – so it’s better to remain silent than to do that and if you do wish to leave, you should post a farewell message first.

If you have any comments or concerns about anything or any group member, please contact a group admin or send an email to veritas@insit.org

Thank you.
